The Tamarind Group wins four Taste Awards
The inaugural Taste Awards 2011 held at Tribe Hotel on 1st December recognized local dining and entertainment in Nairobi in 26 categories, and the Tamarind Group came away with four awards, affirming the high standards set by the group.
Organised in two categories, eleven nominations under the Prestige Awards were decided by an independent panel, and ranked using a score sheet. The panel was drawn up of individuals from a cross section of food connisseurs, beverage specialistsand well-known personalities.
The remainder of the awards were decided by the public through online voting for the People’s Choice award which confirmed the popularity of a restaurant or bar. The most number of votes received was declared the winner.
Under the Prestige Awards, the Taste Most Innovative Experience (restaurant or bar) was won by the Carnivore. The remaining three awards were under the People’s Choice Awards of which The Carnivore won two - the Best East African Award presented by UP Magazine and after 31 years upholds ‘Kenya’s Beast of a Feast’ as the icon of African cuisine.
The second award in the People’s Choice category went to the Carnivore’s Simba Saloon which won the Elianto Award for the Best Family Experience. With its informal lively atmosphere, delicious food and kiddies menu and popular children’s playground it obviously had an undisputed advantage.
The final award was won by Tamambo Bar and Grill for Best Continental/Grill category. Relocating from Westlands to combine with sister restaurant Tamambo Tapas Bar at Village Market, Tamambo will enjoy its celebrity status in a new environment.
The results were monitored, compiled and collated by leading auditors, BDO East Africa. Sponsors included MasterCard, Heineken, Jaguar, Bidco, Hennessy and UP Magazine and organized by Taste Kenya Limited.
E.A.RECOGNITION
The annual East African business survey that recognizes the regions most respected companies, as nominated by chief executives from Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania was held at the Safari Park Hotel in December 2006 during which the Tamarind Group was honored to win third place in the Hotel and Tourism sector.
Organized by Price Waterhouse Cooper (PwC) and the Nation Media Group, the survey was first introduced in 2000. Winners are nominated through responses from 300 chief executives in East Africa as well as face to face interviews conducted by research consultants, Steadman and Assocs.
PwC Kenya country leader, Charles Muchene noted that the winners are the choice of business leaders, who nominate from among their peers, the most respected companies in the East African region.
